It seems to me that Sam really loves his wife, or in any event wants out of the program to go back to her. He's also convinced that she's waiting for him and wouldn't leave him. So I wonder if he's not trying to sweeten up Jensen, so Jensen will favor him more, increasing the odds that Jensen's baby will be his and thus ensure Sam gets out (and gets to go back to his wife).
